Paddle-boarding at First Landing State Park

Broad Bay at First Landing State Park is a beautiful and easy place to paddle (SUP or kayak). The water fowl are so used to people, you can get very close to them. Truly enjoyed looking at the gorgeous houses and natural environment. We also enjoyed cycling to the Chesapeake Bay boardwalk and trails down to Broad Bay. The park is one of VA’s prettiest, but we can’t recommend tent camping there, based on this trip alone – not only were the tent sites just yards from busy Shore Drive, the park also seemed poorly managed from traffic control to condition of bathrooms and showers. We would rather have gone in the woods (!) and used our camp shower bags–at least the water would have been warm and the woods are much cleaner!
